Quality Child Care for Grande Prairie Families

Every child learns and develops differently. Our approach focuses on creating a caring environment where children can feel comfortable, supported and engaged throughout their day.

Our educators observe children’s interests and use those interests to create opportunities for exploration, creativity, communication, problem-solving and social development. Children are encouraged to make choices, build confidence and develop relationships while participating in age-appropriate activities.

We believe that strong connections between children, families and educators are an important part of providing positive child care in Grande Prairie.

Child Care Programs for Every Stage

A Bright Beginning Child Care offers programs designed to support children at different ages and stages of development. Program availability varies by location.

Early Years Child Care

Our Avondale Early Years program provides care for children from approximately 12 months to 5 years of age before Kindergarten. Children have opportunities to explore a variety of experiences including sensory activities, creativity, dramatic play, communication, problem-solving and active play.

Rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, educators observe each child’s interests and development and create experiences that encourage discovery and participation at the child’s own pace.

Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Learning

As children prepare for the transition to school, they continue developing important social, emotional, communication and problem-solving skills through play.

Our learning environments encourage children to become curious, confident learners while building independence and positive relationships with both children and adults.

Before and After School Care

A Bright Beginning also provides school-age child care for Grande Prairie families. School-age programs offer children a welcoming environment outside regular classroom hours where they can socialize, play, explore their interests and participate in age-appropriate activities.

School-age programming is available at our Avondale, Roy Bickell and École Montrose locations, with age ranges and availability varying between locations.

A Play-Based Approach to Early Learning

A Bright Beginning has adopted Flight: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework. This approach recognizes that children are capable learners who develop through relationships, experiences, exploration and play.

Our educators observe and document children’s interests and use a cycle of inquiry to determine how those interests can be extended through new experiences and learning opportunities.

Children are provided with opportunities that support areas such as:

  • Well-being and positive relationships
  • Play, creativity and imagination
  • Communication and early literacy
  • Problem-solving and exploration
  • Confidence and independence
  • Social and emotional development
  • Curiosity and discovery

Our goal is to make learning meaningful and enjoyable while supporting each child as an individual.

Learning Through Play, Curiosity and Discovery

Play is an important part of childhood development. It gives children opportunities to communicate, experiment, solve problems, use their imagination and understand the world around them.

Our educators thoughtfully observe children’s play and introduce materials, activities and experiences that expand on the interests they are already demonstrating. This allows learning to develop naturally instead of relying only on adult-directed activities.

Children are given opportunities to make choices and participate at their own pace while educators remain available to guide, encourage and support their learning.

A Supportive Environment for Children and Families

We believe successful child care includes strong relationships with families. Parents and caregivers know their children best, and communication between families and educators can help create a smoother, more comfortable child care experience.

Our educators work to foster a sense of belonging where children can develop trusting relationships, feel secure in their environment and become confident participants in their community.

From a child’s first experiences in early learning through their school-age years, our focus remains on providing a happy, supportive and nurturing environment.
